There are just soooooo many cafes sprouting out these days. In fact, I face extreme difficultly choosing which one to dine at every weekend. Maison Ikkuko has always been in my to go to list and I'm glad I finally did!
The thing that irks me the most when it comes to cafe brunching is when I'm served meagre portions of easily replicable food. Oh ya, top that up with steep pricing and you'll get a really grouchy Ken Li. Maison Ikkuko serves anything but meagre portions. I was there on Sunday with M and his Big Breakfast (Break Of Dawn) was massive.
Honestly, I'm not quite a big breakfast person as I personally think its really easily replicable at home. However, M swears by their fluffy scramble eggs and crispy bacon. He was so super happy with his dish. I, on the other hand, was really intrigued by their orange pineapple salad.

I was deciding between the Salmon Florentine and the Rendang Blackstone. I guess my adventurous self gave into the latter and I'm über happy with my choice. Frankly, I'm no Rendang connoisseur but Maison Ikkuko's Rendang was pretty darn good. It was spicy and had chunks of succulent beef. I thought it went really well with the tangy hollandaise sauce and fluffy brioche bread. I truly enjoyed every bite of it and wished there were more Rendang on the buns. Oh and I was given water melon scoops instead of cherry tomatoes. I thought the addition of something sweet and juicy really helped balanced the heat and cloy-ness of the dish; an excellent choice of sides I must say!

All in all, I was extremely happy with my dish. I was super full and ultra satisfied, I secretly wished I had a bigger stomach just so that I could savour their aw-so tall layered cakes. Here's the breakdown: Service -decent, food-awesome, price-reasonable, wide, extensive, not-so-"me-too" choices, only gripe- those tall, uncomfortable, shaky, wooden seats and yellow luminous warm lights; I really felt like a piece of meat barbecuing in a well lit oven. Nonetheless, I would definitely return once again for brunch!
