Birthday Month @ PS Cafe

PS cafe is the place to go if you have serious and I really mean SERIOUS chocolate cravings. Their Black Out Chocolate Cake is da bomb! it will solve all chocolate deficients and clog your arteries in the midst. If I were to compare, Rider's Cafe's Death by Chocolate Cake  is definitely more gao and more rich but I believe it's slightly smaller than PS cafe's. Then again that was like a year ago and my mind might have failed me.

Anyways, I do agree, PS Cafe is way over priced but who can say no to such huge chocolate cake?! I was craving for a large slab of chocolate cake and I begged my siblings to go. My brother was highly against it as he almost died eating it the previous time round. Oh wait, that reminds me, I forgot to tell you my past 2 experiences with PS cafe's BOCC.

Round1: It was in 2011 (I think, as A had his first pay). A and myself had a BOCC and Door Stopper Chocolate Cake to "share" after having a scrumptious dinner . I single handed-ly finish the entire chocolate cake.

Round 2: April 2014 with bro. I finished 3/4s of it as bro said the cake is so GAO, it "sticks to his throat" LOL.

So anyways, round 3 was much more civilized. I'm older, more mellow and more rational. I had maybe 1/2 of it and stopped.. or maybe cos I had other cakes to devour. You might be wondering why on earth would we order 3 days worth of calories all at one seating.. well the reason is simple... its because PS cafe has this stupid policy stating every person must at least order 1 item. Honestly, that's a pretty stupid policy, especially since their cakes are so gigoormous. Don't get me wrong, I aint complaining about the size of cake, I'm just whining as it caused much destress to my siblings, who had to finish all 4 cakes.

Bro saw "Ultimate Fudge Brownie" on the menu and insisted on having it despite Jie explaining how its loaded with marshmallow (all of us hates marshmallow). She was absolutely right about "loaded" alright. It was eseentially 10% fudge, 10% brownie and 80% marshmallow. We all felt pretty cheated. Dislike for marshmallow aside, the brownie was pretty normal; I thought the addition of pecans to the brownie was a good touch though.

The star of the night was alittle lacklustre. I thought the one at Palais Renaissance was much better. I know they probably came from the same central kitchen but I honestly think the one at Palais was bigger and more moist. Nonetheless, it sure fixed my chocolate cravings for the month... or rather day

Shuaxy was alittle aghast about the BOCC and so he chose the Butterscotch Banana Cake instead. His rationale is that something fruity would be easily palatable.. IKR?! what logic seriously. Anyway the Butterscotch Banana Cake was surprisingly really good. It was flavourfully dense and really yummy. I guess warming the cake did help in the texture as well. The butterscotch sauce was a tad too sweet for me but it definitely went well with the banana cake.

I think I was seriously sugar deprived that night, I coaxed all of them into sharing a Dark Chocolate Banana Cheesecake. Bad choice on hindsight as Banana and cheese sooo didn't go with a full stomach of cake; I honestly felt like puking mid way. I liked the base of the cheesecake very much, it was cookie like and firm, I reckon its a shortcrust pastry instead of your regular digestive biscuit base. Besides the base and the dark chocolate ganache on top, the rest pretty much sucked; which is funny cos thats the main part of the cake. It's like hating your surname.

Thankfully, PS Cafe has the Black Out Chocolate Cake; it is the only reason why I would return to PS cafe. With mediocre food, steep prices, slip shot service and stupid food policy, I really find it difficult to return.
