Ser-weet Sweet Buns

I love sweet buns and I cannot lie,
It's buns that I can't deny..

I was really happy we were assessed on sweet buns the previous week as I missed the sweet buns class and had the chance to be tested/ learn how to make them. Thankfully everything fell in place as Chef Low was the teacher-in-charge and boy was he really lenient.

Tau Sar Coffee Paste Bun :)

We began by making our sweet bun dough which was pretty easy. Mixing all our ingredients together for about 12 mins, we allowed the dough to rest while preparing the filling. We had to make 3 different types of sweet bun: Sweet Filling, Cheese Filling and Hot Dog. I guess the only tough part would be the moulding and shaping of the bread; then again you could let your creativity run wild and shape the dough into whatever you like.

I thought the Tau Sar Buns were good; I love the coffee flavoured red bean paste!! Unfortunately some of my Tau Sar Buns were slightly smaller and flatter and sort of over baked, resulting in some tougher buns.

The Hot Dog Buns were much better as they were proofed really well and was baked just right: soft and fluffy.

A dollop of cheese here and there wldn't hurt :)

The cheese buns were the worse tasting of the lot. I reckon my family (and that includes me) are too used to eating those nicely velvety cream cheese kinda buns. The cheddar cheese became pretty dried out and hard when the buns cooled hence re-toasting the bread was necessary.

We were also tested on Bagels that day, yums.. Me heart bagels <3

Bagels

Not only do I love eating Bagels, I love making Bagels too! Yeah.. to think I was intimidated by these rings..

Bagels in the making

One more assessment and tons of theory to go.. oh how time flies...
