Noodles like River

I have never been a fan of Tse Char; well at least not until now. My love for Hor Fun grew ever since we visited Paradise Inn and had the most delicious Beef Hor Fun. However, it doesn't stop there, my quest to find good Beef Hor Fun brings us to Geylang Lor 9...

Located at 237 Geylang Lor 9, this shop serves not only Beef Horfun but also other Tse Char dishes. Staying true to the mission, we ordered the Beef Kway Teow to share. I was kinda surprised the place wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be, not that I'm complaining as our food came promptly.

I thought the Kway Teow was done pretty well. It was smooth yet had that charred wok hei taste; nothing irks me than to have lumpy kueh like kway teow. The sauce was tasty and the beef was tender. In fact, I thought the beef tasted kinda weird as it's over-tenderized, which makes it taste kinda fake. Other than fake tasting beef, I thought this Beef Kway Teow is a commendable contender to Paradise Inn's. In terms of value for money, Geylang Lor 9's wins hands down.

Next up, First Culinary's Beef Hor Fun. Located amongst the industrial buildings at Kaki Bukit, First Culinary is a rather classy restaurant serving Chinese food. Honestly, I wouldn't have noticed the existence of this restaurant if L did not introduce it to me. Their 2 signature dishes are the imperial crab and roasted duck but we tried none of those as Beef Hor Fun was our top priority.

First Culinary
L said the Vegetable Juice here is really refreshing and yummy, I thought it tasted like the one I had at the HK Cafe which serves abalone noodles, near IMM. The one I had at the HK Cafe tasted better as the latter was a little diluted.

Vegetable Juice @ $3
We ordered the medium sized Hor Fun and gosh were the servings huge! I thought in terms of value, this dish definitely cost less per portion as compared to Paradise's.  Taste wise, First Culinary's was pretty close to Paradise's. I love how the meat was tender but not as fake tasting as Lorong 9's.

The noodles were done pretty well too! Silky smooth rice noodles glistening in viscous beefy gravy *drools* Honestly, if you were to ask me, I wouldn't be able to tell you which I prefer, Paradise or First Culinary.

Other Hor fun affairs...

Had this Seafood Hor Fun at the HK Cafe, near IMM and known for their Abalone Noodles. I thought the noodles were pretty good! I like how they were smooth and not fried dried clumpy.

Sea Food Horfun

I also had a Seafood Horfun for lunch at West Coz the other day.West Coz whips up a pretty good fish curry, however that cannot be said for their Horfun. Their Seafood Horfun had dried kueh like noodles  and the sauce was far from flavourful. My colleague had their Tom Yam Noodles which wasn't too bad. Their Tom Yum was a lil on the sweet side nonetheless it was thick, flavourful and delish; my only qualm would be its meagre portion size.

Seafood Hor Fun
I have no idea why Horfun only comes in 2 variants: seafood and beef. I wish there were more variety as I'm having trouble remembering how many seafood Horfun I actually devour since I started working. I'm pretty sure there's more to come; nothing comes between me and thick rice noodles smothered with gravy =D
