Smoothie King: Healthy or Stealthy?

It was not only until December did I realise Häagen-Daz was replaced by a big signage labelled "Smoothie King, opening soon". Then again, it was not only until I read countless newspaper write ups did I decide to pay Smoothie King a visit. You know those consistent direct mailers? or those annoyingly repetitive advertisements, those are meant for consumers like me ;P

I jio-ed L to Smoothie King that very weekend which happened to be ages ago and had some wraps and smoothie for lunch. Ive not been to Korea but Smoothie King is apparently really famous there and has 700 outlets across US and South Korea. Honestly, I ain't a smoothie fan cos of some ridiculously stupid reason: I watched a show whereby this girl got really fat cos of smoothies. I reckon its true too as I've read a couple of articles about how fattening these innocent looking, sugary laden stuffs are. So when I realised that most of their smoothies were less than 250 calories I was like "Damn son, gonna give those a go!"

Blueberry Lite @ $7 +
Ok I shall stop ranting and cut the chase. I ordered the blueberry lite which was pretty good. It had the right balance of sweet and tang, as well as creaminess and fruitiness. I guess the only downside would be the price, I mean for $7+ you can easily replicate the taste by blending some ice with store bought yoghurt drink.

I was famished from Yoga and ordered a Spicy Chicken Wrap. Their wraps are classified into 3 categories: fresh, cold and hot or something like that. The different classification basically represents the different temperature of your wraps. Hmm.. interesting but confusing much? I thought the wraps were passable though I love the spicy sweet dressing! Smoothie King's wraps weren't terrible per se but I would very much prefer Salad Stop's wraps.

Fresh Spicy Chicken Wrap @ $5.90

Smoothie King sure looks like "the healthier choice" and they kinda taste good not fantastic though a tad pricy. However, there are some websites stating how Smoothie King's Smoothies are deceivingly healthy and has tons of sugar and artificial crap snuck in them. I didn't quite believe them not until I met the owner, who turned up that day and greeted all of us. The owner look like he's in his mid 30s but boy was he HUGE! Food for thought guys, food for thought...
