Celebrated Uncle's 91st birthday last week. Now that calls for a celebration, it's not everyday someone turns 91!! On the same note, I wouldn't wanna live that long, would you? We dined at Li Wah Restaurant which is located at Blk 44 Bendemeer Road; apparently this is the birthplace of "Yu Sheng".
With an ordinary looking signboard, one would not pay much attention to this restaurant. Li Wah's interior wasn't as extravagant looking either. Boasting a cosy home-like ambience, Li Wah didn't quite leave me with a good first impression.
The first dish wasn't a typical cold dish, instead pink longevity buns were served. The pink buns were filled with sweet lotus paste and was pretty passable; I thought the pau skin was too dry.

I don't really know how to appreciate Shark's Fin soup but I reckon it tasted pretty standard, just like any other gooey soup I suppose.

Unfortunately, my bro failed to take a picture of one of the better tasting dish: the herbal chicken. I thought the chicken was very nicely cooked, it was really soft yet succulent albeit a tad too salty.
The Fried Yam was pretty decent. Although it was a little too oily for my liking, it had a nice balance of both crisp and softness.

All in all, I thought Li Wah wasn't as fantastic but it may be the fact that we didn't order their signature dishes. According to the newspaper write ups and magazine reviews which are neatly pasted on the windows and walls, do give their Venison Hor Fun, Golden Toufu and Yu Sheng a try and you just might be humming a different tune.
