I have never been a Crème Brûlée fan, not until I became a dessert buffet fanatic, I mean who the hell can resist those creamy custard topped with crusty sugar layer? Crème Brûlée is essentially like the cream caramel custard, just way creamier and a whole lot more sinful. Consisting of only egg yolks, this custard has to be baked in a bain marie and torched in order to give the nice crusty layer on top of a luscious creamy goodness.
I tried heating the custard in a toaster but it failed to produce a crusty sugary layer. I actually thought of flambé-ing it but, according to google, it wouldn't do the trick either. So poor L had to eat hot and icky Crème Brûlée which I'm pretty sure didn't taste good.
I forgot who suggested making coffee Creme Brulee but hell ya did it blow our minds out!! Trust me, a few drops of coffee emulco is all it takes to convert you into a hardcore coffee Crème Brûlée fan.
I love to hear the cracking of the sugary crust; it is especially therapeutic :) |
