Weekend Indulgence @ Five and Dime

I love Brunch menus but hate the fact that it is almost always offered after 10, weird huh? I agree to disagree. :) Anyways, I've been yearning to brunch at Five & Dime but never seem to be able to get bookings. Fortunately, we managed to reserve a table at their 10am slot (they only take bookings at 10am, 12 pm and 2pm for Brunch on Weekends).

Five and Dime is a quaint looking cafe, located along River Valley Road. I loved how it looked and was greeted with a very familiar smell upon entering. The cafe smelt like those you would find in London, OMG i'm liking Five and Dime already!

Jie immediately chope the Eggs Benny and since we do not have the habit of ordering the same type of food, I settled for the pancakes instead. To me, Pancakes are almost always eaten sweet and so I asked for a sweet version of their pancakes as their pancakes came with sausages and bacon. I thought the waiter was really nice and tried his best to accomodate my request, however he was kinda messing with my head and confused me further as the conversation progressed. We finally settled on "Just give me a sweet version of your pancakes." Out came a plate with 2 pancakes and a bowl of mixed fruit soaked in syrup cum fruit juice. I thought the pancakes were a little pathetic and was kinda disappointed he didn't serve it with ice cream as promised. :(

The pancakes were definitely fluffy but I guess the miserable fruits that came with it didn't quite make this a "to die for" dish. At $15++, FnD's Pancakes aren't that worth the buck. Spruce's Blueberry Banana Pancakes is still my number 1 choice for Pancakes.

Pancakes @ $15++

Jie's Benny looked awesome! Served with beef, their Eggs Benny tasted pretty good. I loved how the dish was piled with fresh veggies and a nice healthy bowl of fruit salad, looking wholesome doesn't it?

Eggs Benny @ $16++
The Eggs Benny had well executed eggs which unveils a lava liked yolk upon slicing. I didn't quite like their breakfast potatoes though as it was kinda tasteless.

The star of the dish
As their Pancakes weren't enough to satisfy my sweet tooth,  I ordered their Earl grey Chocolate Tart for dessert. According to Hans, the owner of Truffs owns Five & Dime as it is no wonder they carry Truff's Tarts at FnD.

The Earl Grey Chocolate Tart was the star of my Brunch. The chocolate ganache was über dense and rich; definitely not for the weak hearted (or the diet consious- oh shit tt's me!) The Earl Grey flavours were subtle and I wished they were a tad stronger but I guess their smooth, rich chocoalte ganache makes up for any lack of flavour. I also loved the firm and crunchy tart base and those crumbly buttery bits on the top; I basically loved the entire dessert (period).

Earl Grey Chocolate Tart $9++

The tart cost $9 but I un-knowingly added a scoop of Honey & Figs Ice cream to it, which brought this dish to a whopping $13++. I thought it would have been nice of the waitress to at least warn me that the ice cream didn't come free -_- She wasn't wrong though as her recommendation of the Honey & Figs Ice cream was indeed unique and delectable.

$4 for a scoop of Ice cream
All in all, FnD is indeed a great place to chill out. The Mocha and Latte we both had were just so-so. I found their food portions a tad too small and would have love a more hearty big breakfast. FnD is an awesome place to hang out and I would definitely come back for their desserts (I hope their chocolate tart would still be there though).
