Happy birthday Shuaxy Wakxy :) |
Celebrated shuaxy's birthday at Ochre and it was just OK. I really applaud them for their service (though the service staffs seem kinda condescending at times) but with regards to food, there were more misses than hits. I truly enjoyed my first visit at Ochre and thought it would be awesome to revisit Ochre.
We were greeted by a basket load of bread. Having tried their complimentary bread before, I immediately headed for the black breadsticks. These breadsticks are darn addictive and was the best out of the lot.
Complimentary bread to start the meal |
Mum and Dad swore by the Buretta and so we gave it a go. Buratta is fresh italian cheese made from Mozzarella and Cream Cheese; Ochre's rendition had cherry tomatoes and parma ham in it.
The Buratta was indeed really unique, the Mozzarella was über chewy on the outside but soft and creamy in the inside. I also loved how the parma ham and tomato blended together with the cheese; making it taste almost like a foetus pizza- undeveloped version of a pizza; pure and fresh, without all the crust and nonsense. I guess good things do come in small packages, at $28 its kinda pricey.
Birthday boy ordered a Meat Lover Pizza which was huge. I didn't quite like the Meat Lover Pizza as I'm not exactly a meat kinda person. I thought the white pizza we had during our previous visit beats this hands down.

Mally ordered a Porcini Risotto which was surprisingly delicious. Risotto almost always look like puke but I guess this dish is the epitome of how looks can be deceiving. Porcini is essentially a type of mushroom found in Europe and it really help alleviate the dish, providing this nice earthly taste. I thought the rice was very nicely cooked too, it ain't too mushy and had a nice chew to it.

Jie had the Linguine Seafood which was packed with loads of seafood. Although not mind blowing-ly good, I guess this dish had everything a Linguine Seafood pasta should consist of.

I was feeling adventurous that day and decided to order a Calzone. Calzones are actually turnover pizzas which resembles a mega huge curry puff or pasty. I've had my fair share of pasties in London and hoenstly I was hoping to relive those days. Unfortunately, a Calzone is a Calzone and the dough was less short (crumbly) than a Pasty. I didn't quite like the tough dough and its stuffings. The Calzone I had was mainly stuffed with Parma Ham, Mozzarella Cheese, Spinach, Olives and an Egg. I would felt that the ingredients don't quite blend well and would have much appreciated a spinach ricotta filling or a Parma Ham with pineapples stuffings.
Calzone @ $ 28 |
I guess the highlight of the meal would have to be the desserts. We ordered a Hot Choco Sensation which was delectable!
Hot Choco Sensation |
The Hot Choco Sensation was basically a warm molten chocolate cake made with Valhorna Chocolate and soaked in hot bubbly liquid, served with a truffle and a slice of biscotti on the side. I loved how Ochre's twist to the usual molten lava cake; their rendition is more of a pudding than a cake and had a layered of crispy feuilletine base at the bottom of the cup. This dessert is aw-so decadent and yummy, I was thinking of having it all to myself :)
Hot Choco Sensation @ $18 |
Another highlight of the meal would have to be their complimentary Tiramisu Cake. Served in a exquisitely made chocolate cup, the tiramisu is amazingly rich and yummy. I love how they took the pain to decorate the plate (check out those flower petals man! Naise~)
