Have you ever seen a Baked Alaska? Well, you should! cos it's darn pretty! Baked Alaska is actually a ice cream cake that is covered with Meringue on the outside. Traditionally, the meringue is baked in an oven to given it it's colour; however we used a blow torch instead. Did you know February 1st is Baked Alaska day in the US?

Baked Alaska is pretty easy to make, all you need is a bombe mould, some sponge, ice cream and egg whites. Cut up a 9 inch sponge and shaft it into the mould (lined with a cling wrap), then lightly brush it with sugar syrup to get rid of the crumbs. Next, fill the bombe mould with any ice cream of your choice and seal the mould with another layer of sponge cake. Finally, when the cake is set, slather a thin layer of meringue and decorate!

I thought the meringue was really gross and I removed it before tucking into the Baked Alaska. I reckon this would be a hit amongst those who like whipped cream or meringue. I thought the mango and chocolate combination was lovely, I have no idea why this work and the Bavarian's didn't.
