Wild Oats With BITC Babes

BITC Friendship Recipe Work Process (follow closely):
  1. Take a great big mixing bowl and fill it with a smile
  2. Mix half a cup of patience, with good deeds to last a while.
  3. Add a pinch of work and play, a pinch of thoughtfulness and care
  4. But don't bake it in the oven, just spread it around everywhere
As we ended dinner really early, we decided to chill out somewhere nearby. Thankfully, another particularly wise one suggested an awesome place at Emily Hill- Wild Oats. It was approximately a 15 minutes climb from Wilkie Edge but it was all worth it.

Wild Oats is located at Emily Hills which was where NAFA was formerly sited. Suddenly, a wave of nostalgia hit me and all those memories of art school just came streaming back into my tiny little mind. There I was sitting in the cold freezing classroom, trying my best to sketch a still life portrait of those fruits, lying lifelessly on the table. Oh and there I was rushing out of class, trying to chope a space at the basin to wash my palettes and brushed. And how can I forget those times when I waited impatiently for Jo and Jie to be done, slotting in coins to get cups of cold milo for 50 cents! Boy... I can't believe 14+ years just went past in an instant! Judging from where I'm at right now, those years were the happiest years of my life; funny how the grass is always greener on the other side right.

Anyway, sorry for the digression, back to food. Not the entire school was taken up by Wild Oats of course; the bar only took up the front end and maybe 1/3 of the backend for the kitchen. We chose to chill out at what was formerly the school's porch, as it was brighter and less crowded.

Loved the rattan chairs!
Service was impeccable; well mannered waiter and thoughtful staffs served us through the entire night. I very much appreciated the mosquito coil and mosquito repellent given to us, do ask for those especially when you're an A+ blood type.

We ordered Luncheon Meat Fries for chews and boy this is good. Despite it tasting so simple- deep fried luncheon meat- it was well fried till crisp and wasn't as oily as I imagined it to be. Paired with creamy tangy sauce, this Luncheon Meat Fries really rocked.

Can't be baking buddies and not order desserts! Jools highly recommended the Osmanthus Jelly which essentially was a wine granita with Osmanthus Jelly, plus some other toppings and flavourings of course. This dessert is da bomb! So light and refreshing, I would kill for another glass of this.

Osmanthus Flower Champagne Jelly & Rice Wine Granita @ $13.00

Next dessert was the Chocolate Fondant which was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! The chocolate exterior was crisp and contrasted with the gooey flowy chocolate filling. No ice cream this time round, only flambĂ© bananas which was brilliant. Chocolate and bananas, who can fault that combination?

Dark Lava Chocolate Gateau @ $13.50

Obviously you cant "chill" without some drinks. We were in luck that day as they were having some fruit beer happy hour. We paid about $28.90 ++ for 3 fruit beers and bought the Rochefort for $14.50. Pardon my noobness but I always thought fruit beer would taste really sweet, however I couldn't have been more wrong.

The best tasting beer would have to be the Timmerman's Strawberry (4%); it essentially tasted like beer with strawberry essence (thankfully not the other way round) and had a really nice fruity taste to it. The Konig (5.5%) tasted pretty much like what a normal german beer would taste albeit it was suppose to have some hint of bitterness from the pink grapefruit. Bitter yes, grapefruit? hmm...not so. The Kwak (8%) has contents like pineapple, mango, coriander & hops, liquorice and caramelised bananas however all I tasted was the bitterness from the fermented malt. Last but not least the Rochefort 8 (9.2%), which supposedly contains hints of banana, pear and figs. Sadly, this tasted really weird lol. Having tried the fruit beers below, I think I will stick to my regular Erdinger :) I had loads of fun that night and I sure hope this would not be the last.

Fruit beers, interesting but once is enough.

I'm very thankful I'm in the class I'm in.
Yes, it's not perfect but it's improvin.
I'm glad I've got Khim as my partner,
I'll tell you the story, the whole lot, later.
I'm really glad we managed to make time for each other,
Cos that night was filled with a whole lot of laughter.
