Hans mentioned that there's this really good Soon Kueh at Alexandra and I caught sight of it when we had our dinner at Keng Eng Kee. As I'm a huge Ang Ku Kueh fan, I had to get my hands on those AKK so when I was at Jalan Bukit Merah the previous week (yes this post is way dated, and so are most of my posts anyways) I begged Dad to stop by for some AKK.
There were like 4 people infront of me, mostly indecisive auntie. It's hard to blame them though as Poh Cheu really offers a wide selection of kuehs. When I was approaching the counter, I thought I saw a familiar face, the lady at the front counter looked alot like the lady who was selling AKK at Toa Payoh Lor 1 food centre, OMG this might just be the stall which caused my bro and I to suffer for 3 days 2 nights. Ok, side track alittle....
Long before I became such a foodie, I've always gotten my AKK from Toa Payoh. I must say their AKKs were pretty good, especially their mango flavoured ones. Mum would come back from marketing with boxes of 10 and I would polish off 6 in a row. However, this AKK joy came to an end when Bro and I suffered massive food poisoning after eating their AKK (we cld only attribute it to the AKK as jie mum and dad were fine despite eating the same stuff as us throughout the day, also jo suffered more as he ate 4 while I ate 3). A few weeks after that incident, we realised they closed down. All of us immediately jumped into conclusion that others reported food poisoning as well and that's the end of the Lor 1Toa Payoh AKK Shop.
Ok, back to Poh Cheu. I went with my instincts and curiously asked the lady whether they opened an outlet at Toa Payoh before and she said YES! The reason for closing down was because of the lack of man power, so much for our deduction eh -_-. I was in a dilemma, should I give them a second chance? Could my stomach deal with another event of food poisoning? I weighed it out and eventually bought 3 AKK, I reckoned I wouldn't die such a horrible death with 3 AKKs right?

The Black Sesame AKK wasn't as fragrant as I wished it would be, this might be due to its overpowering sweetness.

I'm pretty sure I was objective when tasting and this post is by no means trying to defame Poh Cheu. It's just my personal experience which I thought I shld share. In any case, I would swear by Poh Cheu's if I hadn't already been pampered by the AKKs from Ji Xiang/ Rochor Beancurd.
