Cake Test 1, 2

2 assessments consecutively did seem kinda daunting initially but I was glad we all made it and produced some lovely cakes that Saturday. The assessment was meant to test our piping and cake decorating skills and we were told to make and decorate 1 Birthday cake and 1 Festive cake (Christmas, Valentine's or Easter).

Some got really creative and did some fun whacky designs; which honestly put me to shame.

Top left: Khim's Hello Kitty Cake
Bottom Right: Juliana's Rosette Covered cake

Top Left Clockwise: Khim's, Malcolm's, Mine and Jing Wen's

Top Left Clockwise: Theresa's, Aqtica's, Jools and Shin's
The festive cakes were made using the pound cakes we made the previous week and all we had to do was even out the top of the cake and proceed with the wrapping of fondant. I cheated and used the Santa which we made 2 weeks back. I was really proud of my snowman and presents :) (lol some self consolation going on right now..)

Honestly, I wouldn't even dare put this cake into my mouth. For one, it's covered in hell lot of sugar; I mean...just look at that thick layer of fondant!! :S Secondly, the pound cake was made with whole load of cake margarine and butter; I've learnt to sort of accept the need for butter but cake margarine is just gross.

My Christmas Cake
As we only manage to make the pound cake last week, we had to make the sponge cake, on the day itself, for the birthday decoration. It was a criteria to have at least 1 fondant rose on the cake and so noob me, without much deco planning, had to squeeze a bunch of roses in the middle of the cake. I think it's pretty much common sensical for one to start decorating from the centre and move towards the edges but I got so excited about piping, common sense flew out the window.
