Hooked on Heads @ 3 Sin Ming Road

Mum was tired and it was eat out day! We headed to Hooked on Heads despite Mum's reluctance as I was craving for Pad Thai and both Dad and Jo commented HOH's Pad Thai was good (they tried HOH without me, the other day).

HOH is famous for their curry fish head and it's almost a must to order. However, instead of the usual curry fish head, we ordered curry fish tail instead, which in my opinion is more worth it (more meat + cheaper). I thought the curry fish was average, not the kind you would die for; infact, pretty much comparable to my mum's :)

Despite being well known for their curry fish, they do offer a wide variety of Thai dishes and are labelled "must try" and so we did. Unfortunately, must try does not equate to guaranteed good and most of their Thai dishes missed the mark. Their Green Curry Chicken, for one, didn't really taste like green curry. Despite having tender chunks of chicken in them, the Green Curry was a tad too salty and tasted like it came out from a packet.

Their Pad Thai was disappointing, I have no idea how Dad & Jo, and even Jie, could say their Pad Thai was good. The noodles were ordinary Chinese Kway Teow Noodles and the dish didn't have the balance of flavours which a Pad Thai dish should have. Yes the tofu, seafood, peanuts, bean sprouts were there but HOH's Pad Thai tasted more like Fried Seafood Kway Teow. What's worse, we thought it was sooo good, we ordered 2 at a go! sigh, I guess we only have our greed to blame eh. Oh how I'm missing Jai Thai's Pad Thai now.....

Besides the above, we also ordered Tom Yum Soup (@ $14) which was passable; at least better than the first 2 Thai dishes. Hoping to end the meal on a sweet note, we ordered the Sticky Rice with Mango which was essentially a 2 persons's portion (and we were all proclaiming how full we were and not being able to finish it lol). The Mango was sweet but the rice lacked the crunchy Mung Beans I so yearned for. Despite its meagre portion and higher price, I would say HOH's rice tasted better than Jai Thai's @ Purvis.

In short, now I know why Mum was so hesitant to dine at HOH. There's a reason why David Ricardo stands by the theory of comparative advantage; and diners should learn to accept that and dine in Thai Restaurants for Thai Cuisine.
