TCC and Dad's Pocket Huge Hole

It's been awhile since we went out, as a family, to Orchard. Reason being, it's perpetually crowded during weekends and our weekends are usually peaceful and away from all the bustling and tussling. I kinda forgot why we were out but we ended up having tea at TCC and as usual we spent a bomb but also some great quality time. We were at the TCC next to Centrepoint and I was quite surprised to see the cafe filled; I reckon TCC's popularity could stem from the fact that they are innovate and whip up some really cool drinks.

Dad ordered the Tea Time Set which comprised of 2 scones, a spoonful of scallop, a savoury tart, 2 filo pastry, a strawberry cake and a house brewed coffee/tea. Dad paid extra for a Blue Mountain Coffee which was really aromatic.

I was really excited to try the scones as I've never tried retailed scones before (except the one and only one from St Ives). There were 2 scones; one plain and the other with chocolate chip. I thought they tasted really moist, so much so like a muffin. I'm dying to try some scones retailed elsewhere as I definitely need to know the benchmark. The scallop was ok, normal sized scallop soaked in some tangy lemony sauce. The savoury tart is pretty interesting; I can't tell what the filling is but it tasted really good as a whole. According to Mum, the filo pastries tasted like "fried angmoh wantons". The Strawberry cake was ok, tasted like just about any other strawberry sponge cake, nothing really spectacular.

I got myself a Azuki Coffee Cooler which is basically a Latte with Azuki Red Beans and chocolate chips. I hated the chocolate chips as its those regular compound chocolate chip you'll find anywhere. Yes, Azuki Beans and Green Tea are a perfect match but Azuki Beans and coffee doesn't quite go too well. The Azuki Beans were overpoweringly sweet and I actually prefer my Latte without them.

Jie had the Tropiconut Latte which was pretty interesting. Accompanied with strong and rich coconut flavour, the Caffe Latte tasted pretty refreshing and unique.

Shuaxy got a Chocolate Stout Royale which was my initial choice :( The chocolate Stout Royale would please all Stout fans as the stout added really delivered. I thought it was interestingly good but it does make you feel jelak after awhile.

Jie is perpetually hungry 24/7 and so we ordered some mains to share. This Wafu Beef Spaghetti was über good! Who would have thought Japanese and Italian cuisine could blend so well?

The Baked Penne was pretty good too, really creamy and yummy. My only complaint: it's meagre portion :(

I thought their Pinana Landing dessert looked cool and so I ordered it. Unfortunately, it looked way cooler than it taste. This dessert is essentially a Frangipane Tart filled with Custard and served with bananas and coconut ice cream. I didn't quite like the frangipane tart as it was way too sweet. The custard and bananas were practically the best components of the dessert. I have tasted better coconut ice cream in Bangkok and so the ice cream did not quite please me. Nonetheless looks sell and I was a victim of it.

All in all, we spent about $70++ and that's after Shuaxy's 50% birthday discount!!! I know we ordered alot but $150++ for 7 items doesn't quite sound reasonable. I think I'm gonna lay off TCC for a little while and pop by only for drinks lol.
