Miraculously cheena-fied me suggested trying out East Ocean Teochew last Wednesday and I think Hans hated himself for compromising. I was pretty broke to start off with and now WE are pretty broke. In my defence, how was I suppose to know that it was that expensive? lol who am I kidding...
I've always wanted to try their Liu Sha Bao and I was glad they serve Liu Sha Bao for dinner. Their Liu Sha Bao was the sole reason I wanted to dine at EOT and I was praying it was good. Unfortunately, it didn't quite live up to my expectation. The Bao texture was nice but the custard filling was way too sweet. I liked how it embodied a slight salty taste but the sweetness was way too overwhelming. So yeah, Swee Choon's is still my no.1 choice for Liu Sha Bao.

I wished I had tried the Custard Bao before I placing my order for their Custard Layered Cake. Indeed Hans was right, Chef Recommendations is a marketing ploy but sadly and disgracefully, the marketer fell for it. My perception of their Custard Layered Cake was : plain white bread + über sweet left over (from the steamed custard bao) custard filling + plain white bread again + über sweet left over custard filling + plain white bread again + über sweet left over custard filling + plain white bread + shredded flavoured coconut. I didn't like this dish at all, it was dry and overpoweringly sweet honestly I didn't quite know why I finished it as it was a waste of my calories.

I also had the privilege of ordering these Steamed Crystal Dumplings which was unexpectedly, the star of the night. The thin but chewy skin blended really well with the smooth Tau Sar and Lian Rong filling. Surprisingly, the fillings weren't that sweet and they were pretty generous with it as thin skin = more filling :)

I think Hans was super compromising that night as most of our dishes were sweet. The only savoury dish was the Teochew Style Fried Mee aka Fried Mee Pok. The Mee Pok tasted really normal nothing too special that warrants $15.

It would be rather foolish not to have Orh Ni in a Teochew restaurant and so Hans had that for dessert. I thought the Orh Ni was pretty good, really smooth and not too oily.

I had Chilled Mango Sago with Pomelo and I thought it was pretty decent. I thought this was comparable to Paradise Inn's.

We spent a whopping $64.25, to think I told Hans I was broke. I doubt I will return to EOT as my only draw factor: the Liu Sha Bao, didn't quite make the cut for me. There you have it, a very broke me but a filled belly.
