I was craving Korean and thought maybe we should head to Your Woul since it's relatively near, as compared to the ideal (Togi or Kim's Family) at Chinatown/ Lor Kilat. I've had Your Woul before with Jie and I thought it's good enough for a korean fix. Besides, my visit with Coach and Jia Xiang was pretty good too. As we entered, we were greeted and shown to our table. There were only 2 servers that day and they seemed to be in a frenzy albeit the restaurant wasn't even packed.
We decided to order something different (worse decision ever, I should have stuck to my cold buckwheat noodles) and got ourselves a sausage stew to share. As Jie, mum and myself had a really late lunch, we weren't that hungry and reckoned the stew would be enough. Obviously, the older waitress (whom I reckon is the boss) wasn't too pleased. She kept hard selling the other items and was a little frustrated we refused her suggestions. I might be a little too sensitive but I felt that that was the cause for the delayed serving of Banchan (side dishes).
I was a little disappointed in their Banchan as it was pathetically unappealing. I thought the best dish was the seasoned lotus root, great balance of sweet and salty. The sausages were normal, fried tofu was way to dry, vegetables were disgusting and the anchovies were horribly soggy. From what I recalled, they had better Banchan for lunch.
Lousy Banchan |
Our stew arrived and we waited patiently for it to boil. Honestly, the stew tasted like it came from a packet: like from those Korean instant noodles. I guess the broth makes or break a stew dish and sadly this stew didn't make the cut. The only saving grace was the rice cakes; I loved how it was still chewy, even after boiling for some time.
Budaejjie @ $39 |
I'm totally writing off this place, I don't think their cold buckwheat noodles would make up for their lousy, snobbish, poor service. Besides, at $39 I could totally cook up a massive cauldron of instant noodles with lots more veggies and meat.
