Savour Saveur

Read tons about Saveur and finally got the chance to dine there. Since Hans was incredibly nice to me, I decided to jio him out for a meal at Saveur. Great food, great companion but bad timing. We (or rather Hans, since he arrived 1st) had to wait pretty long just to get a seat. My bad, I totally forgot about the office lunch crowd.

Located along Purvis Street, this restaurant looked smaller than it actually is. It's funny how a minimally decorated restaurant could still exude some sort of class.

I ordered the Beef Bourguignon as according to Hans "You have to eat french food when you are in a french restaurant." My initial choice was pasta btw. You should see our look when the Beef  Bourguignon arrived. It was the "miss I think you got the wrong table but I'm not too sure, thus peiseh to tell you" look. Although I'm not a huge fan of french cuisine, I do know what a Beef  Bourguignon  looks like (thanks to the movie, Julie and Julia) and the dish presented on our table definitely does not resemble one. I ate it anyway as Hans said the waitress got our table number right.

So on to their rendition, the beef was super tender and tasted more moist than it looked. Underneath the beef was a layer of sauce which I think might be their "stew". I thought the sauce was alright, nothing really special. I guess this dish would have been alot nicer if the beef slices were drenched in the "stew" which they had so carefully cut back on.

Beef Bourguignon @ $13.90

Besides its unconventionality, I think this dish wasn't too bad. I like how they provided all 3 food groups: carbo, protein and fibre. I liked the potato, thought it was very nicely seasoned.

Moving onto Han's duck, he thought it tasted like kopitiam duck lol. I found the duck pretty nice though; it was tender and juicy.

Duck Confit @ $8.90

I guess the dessert was the highlight of the meal (which always is the case for me), we ordered the Pistachio Panna Cotta and it was delectable! The crushed pistachios added some texture to the aw-so smooth panna cotta. I loved loved loved this dish. It's kinda small for $6.90 but I guess good things come in small sizes eh?

Judging from the crowd, relative to the day and timing, I guess Saveur is doing really really well. So much so, GST and service charge is now included in the bill. Nonetheless, this is really a nice place to get some french fix.
