Kin Kin Pan Mee & Beerfest 2014

I'm really laid back when it comes to blogging. So the timeline of my posts are usually as follows:

Day 1: New cafe/ eatery pops out
Day 2-14: Top 80 percentile of food blogs will blog about it
Day 15 - 35: I'll head down one fine day
Day 36 - 100: I'll blog about it

But I choose to think that my blog post would still serve as a good post. For one, it talks about the once "most talked about" but slowly forlorn cafes. For those who are wondering why top food bloggers generally talk about the same few cafes at the same time, it is because they are mostly invited by the cafes themselves (either through PR or blogger firms). They are given the same set of food and so most of their post would more or less review on the same few items. In addition, they are treated like "celebrities" hence things like service and waiting time for food might not post as an issue for them. Hence, if you want the real deal, you would have to check out cha pa lang blogs like myself and million others.

Alright, I have no idea why I even wrote that whole chunk above #randomtalkingmuch. Anyways, Kin Kin Pan Mee was one of the "food talk of the town", at a point in time. Obviously, being such a laggard, I'm only gonna blog about this now... when everything has died down and what you get is practically what it really is (or so I think).

I ordered a bowl of their "Signature Dry Chilli Pan Mee" @ $5 and I was utterly disappointed when it arrived. For haven's sake, if you were to serve such small portion, do not use such a big bowl! I'm not too sure whether its the glutton in me cribbing but my Pan Mee looked really pathetic. I felt like I could literally finish the entire bowl in 5 mouth full.

Portion aside, the noodles were incredibly salty! has anyone wondered why it is called chilli pan mee when it doesn't come with chilli? Bssically the "chilli" is a condiment which you would have to add it in. I guess the only thing I liked about this dish is the über springy noodles and the soft boiled egg but frankly I wouldn't pay $5 for this.

Food wise: FAILED. Service wise: Lagi FAILED.
We weren't showed to our table, nobody attended to us, I had to walk to the counter (not knowing whether that is the normal procedure), I gave my order to guy A who ignored me, so I gave my order to Guy B who said I should tell Guy A and mind you, Guy A and B are just 2cm apart -__-

Signature Dry Chilli Pan Mee @ $5

After the horrible noodles, we headed for Beerfest 2014. It was fun till theguywhoshallnotbenamed came. He ordered like almost 100 shots and everything went downhill after that. Honestly, who the hell drinks such shit?! I mean who wants to drink cough syrup when they don't have to?! it's like taking insulin jabs just to get the kick out of poking yourself -_-

Anyways, here's just a few ciders/ beers which I've enjoyed. I really really enjoyed the Savanna Light cider! it's refreshign, thirst quenching, kinda fees like drinking a shandy but with more kick.

Tried Koppaberg's ciders too, pretty good, real sweet but refreshing. However, my truelove is still Brother's toffeeapple =D

Verdict:

  • Kin kin Pan Mee:
    • Bad/ nonchalant service (I wasn't expecting much service but at least acknowledge my presence)
    • Extremely salty noodles, average meatballs, average chilli
    • Spring noodles and soft boil eggs were the only plus points
    • Extremely small potion and pricey. Better off eating Toa Payoh Central Pan Mee (near courts)
  • Beer Fest 2014
    • Great range of beer
    • Perfect for chilling with friends
