“But there's a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother's story, because hers is where yours begin.”
-Mitch Albom
I hate the fact that I take after my mother, I'll be complaining and whining about her and I pause. Shit! That's me in 30 years time! But being like her helps me understand, it helps me feel the way she feels. I love her to bits! and I hope she knows that.
Anyways my mum is super adventurous but aint a lone ranger kinda adventure seeker. I know she hasn't check out the new malls at the west and so that's where we went on Mothers' day! We were at West Gate followed by JEM and so we had our tea break at MADO. They were having their high tea promo: 1 cake + 1 drink/ 1/2 waffle + 1 drink for $7.90++
Mum and myself got 1 set each, a cake and a 1/2 waffle. The waffles was accompanied with salted caramel ice cream which was pretty good. It had a texture of a gelato and wasn't too sweet. According to the website, their ice cream is imported all the way from Turkey. Honestly, it didn't quite match up to the Turkish Ice Cream I had, nonetheless it was pretty good. The waffles did not disappoint as well. It was crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, really delicious and fragrant. In fact, I didn't mind eating it on its own.
I wished I could say the same for the Mocha Cheesecake. Unfortunately, the thing that attracted my attention to MADO, did not quite live up to my expectation. The only reason why we ended up at MADO was because I was byo-ing the cakes from outside, hence mummy dearest suggested having high tea at MADO. The most extravagant looking cake was the Mocha Cheesecake and so that ended up on our table. Sadly, the cake was too gelatine-y. I reckon they wanted to save up on the cheese and so its prob 20% cheese, 60% cream/ fillers and 20% gelatine *exaggerated proportionately* but you get the gist right? The cake tasted like a creamy custard and would have failed the cheese test miserably. The crust was really soggy as well.
Drinks wise, you would select from a range of hot tea, long black and several ice tea/ soft drinks. I got the apple tea while mum had the sparkling apple juice. Both drinks were passable, nothing too fancy.
Mummy getting all passionate and fired up by English Language |
The staffs were friendly and attentive; at least they didn't stare at us while mumsy was furiously trying to teach me English over cakes and serviettes.
