Bye Bye Fabulous February

If you've been stuffing your face throughout the whole February, dont worry, you're not alone. Fab Feb's gone and its time to burn those extra calories I've unknowingly consumed.

I'm pretty sure everyone has had their fair share of Lou Hei; I personally had 4 Lou Heis and I thought the one we had at my Uncle's place beats any restaurant's version. The following is the one we had during our department dinner at Ocean Kingdom Seafood restaurant. I thought their rendition was ordinary and slightly on the sweeter side.

Huat Ah!
Although their Yu Sheng wasn't spectacular, their Crab Bee Hoon helped save the day. This Crab Fried Bee Hoon is da bomb! The crab meat is ultra fresh & sweet and their bee hoon boast some great wok hei goodness. I think its a known fact that I dislike Bee Hoon but this dish takes the white-hair-looking noodles to a new level. So if you happen to be at Joo Chiat's Ocean Kingdom Seafood Restaurant, please do order this.. this is a must must try!

I was craving something sweet but ice cream seemed too inappropriately cold for that particular rainy day and so I went for something comforting and satisfying like Yuan Yang Paste! This was from Toa Payoh Hub's Food Paradise's dessert stall; ok I know that's a mouthful but basically its from a shop called Fu Ji Dessert. I'm not too about the other desserts but my Yuan Yang Paste looked exactly like the picture in the menu. I was pleasantly taken aback when the server took out 2 measuring cups and did some Yin Yang action...I mean, is that amazing or what?! Anyway taste wise, I thought the Black Sesame was pretty good. It was smooth and wasn't overly sweet albeit the peanut paste was way way too sweet for my liking. Nonetheless, I thought their desserts were kinda affordable and I would definitely head back for some Yin Yang Action once more :)

Speaking of Black Sesame, I had another dose at Hong Kong Sheng Kee Dessert. At $3.10, I thought their Black Sesame was weirdly overly oily, though the flavour was there.

Had dinner with parents on the last day of CNY at a Hawker in Toa Payoh. We had the richest, most decadent Fish Curry ever. It's tasty and really fragrant albeit I got jelak after awhile.

Fish Curry @ $22
We also ordered a Xing Zhou Mee Fen to share. I thought the Bee Hoon was a tad too oily, West Coast's Tse Char's XZMF is still the best! :)

Xing Zhou Mee Fen

We also ordered a Pork Rib with Chipolata from Collin's Express which looks like an imitation of Aston's. I reckon their only differentiating factor is that they do Japanese as well. I thought the Pork Ribs were a little dry albeit easily removable from bone. Although their Chipolata tasted like ordinary chicken sausage, I liked it quite alot. I think the smoky BBQ sauce might have played a part as well. At $8.90, I thought the dish was pretty value worthy, though I highly doubt that small piece of rib and sausage would satisfy a hungry man.

Pork Rib & Chipolata at $8.90

Best Curry Bun Award goes to Prima Deli's Chicken Curry Bun. Their curry chicken is insanely good and taste even more superb when wrapped inside a soft fluffy bun! They are my go-to buns every Saturday and I'm looking forward to my weekly dose already!
