Celebrated Sissy's bdae @ La Nonna which is a small Italian joint located at Namly & Holland V. Serving good old grandmother's italian food, La Nonna prides itself as a unpretentious and wholesome trattoria.
We were warmly greeted by this awesome waiter who, for the entire evening, attended to our every needs. We were served some bread as starters, though I thought the bread wasn't that nice.
I was kinda torn between their signature La Nonna Pizza and their Gnocchi. Having read many reviews, I settled for the former. Indeed, the La Nonna looked impressive! Topped with a wobbly but perfectly cooked egg, the La Nonna Pizza is basically a Asparagus, black truffle and parmesan cheese pizza. I don't really know how to appreciate truffles but I thought the pizza was kinda bland. There wasn't much flavour from the truffle, nor asparagus and to me it tasted like a neutral tasting tomato based pizza. Nonetheless, I like the thin crust and the texture of the pizza dough, I also liked how it remained relatively crispy even after 30 minutes.

Jie ordered the Braised Veal Pasta and switched the Rigatoni for Linguine. I thought the pasta was pretty good; the veal was really tender and the pasta was cooked to perfection.

Since we were at Holland V, we adjourned to The Daily Scoop for dessert. I've read/ heard great things about TDS and thought I should give them a try. TDS was surprisingly crowded that night but we battled our way through the crowd and managed to get a table for 2.

I saw a couple eating the waffle and it looked pretty small, hence I think you'll be better off having 2 scoops of ice cream than a combo.
Hazelnut Cheesecake from Secret Recipe |
Mum got a cake from Secret Recipe for Jie's 25th Bdae; it's a Hazelnut Cheese Cake. I thought the name of the cake was kinda deceiving as the cake tasted more like a Chocolate Hazelnut Cake than a cheese cake. The cake was essentially a chocolate sponge cake, layered with peanut butter cum a tinge of cream cheese buttercream with an addition of Hazelnuts here and there. I thought the combi was interesting but I would have preferred a more cheese =D
