A Night at JB

This was way back but I thought I should share it anyways....My aw-so enthu colleague brought as to JB for dinner a few weeks back; he claims there's this awesome lok lok place at Permas Jaya.

Before you think we are crazy, I must say we cleared the customs in less than 30 mins :) now that's surprising even to me as we were crossing the border at afterwork/ peak hour. I must say the food wasn't to die for but I thought the entire experience was pretty good.

Having been to Malacca, I kinda expected a piping hot tank of satay gravy for us to dip our picks. However, Restoran Sing's serves their lok lok in a different way. Located at Taman Permas Jaya, near the Jusco shopping centre, Restoran Sing is apparently really popular among the locals and only starts kicking things off at 6.30-7.30pm. How things work at Restoran Sing:
  1. Go early to chope a seat and wait patiently for them to set up
  2. Once they are ready, grab the stuff you like (diff colour sticks represent diff pricing) and hand them over to the man at the truck
  3. The guy would then deep fry/ boil them, it depends on what stuff you order
i.e kidney/ liver are boiled but broad beans are fried
  4. Grab a small bowl and scoop as much sauce as you want. There's the usual peanut satay sauce, hot sauce, sweet and sour sauce, salty and sweet sauce etc.
  5. Wait patiently for your food to be served
  6. Enjoy!

The wide variety of choices

More ingredients!

I wished I knew the guy was gonna fry the ingredients as I would have stopped him from doing so; I mean..who on earth fries green beans right?! I guess I didn't quite like the food as it was kinda greasy and the peanut sauce was cold, nonetheless there were a few tasty items. I thought the liver and kidneys went pretty well with the sauce, the bak gwa was also pretty awesome. I also liked their Fu Zhou fish balls! they were juicy and bursting with flavour. Besides the displayed ingredients, they serve great grill chicken as well! The chicken is marinated in hot sauce and grilled in a aluminium foil. Although the chicken is kick ass spicy and a tad too spicy for me, I love the flavours and tenderness of the chicken (refer to picture below).

Hot & Spicy Soup, Wine Chicken, Veggie and Spicy Chicken Wing.
If you're not a fan of Lok Lok, do not despair as Restoran Sing serves Tze Char as well! Based on colleague's recommendation, we got ourselves the following. I thought the dishes were decent but not mind blasting-ly great; the only thing that blew me away was that spicy grilled chicken.

Black Ball Dessert :)
If you're all fiery and raging from all the fried and spicy dishes, do drop by at Blackball located a few steps away. For cheapos like me, do note that Blackball desserts in Msia are cheaper due to the conversion rate :) I got myself the corn combo as I didn't want the pearls. On hindsight, the Blackball signature would have been a better option as there were more variety of toppings in it. The corn ice shavings were unexpectedly tasty as its really creamy and melts in your mouth. The glass jelly was also pretty good, albeit the yam and sweet potato balls were disappointingly tasteless.
