Naomi Kitchen @ Crawford Lane

It's been a long time since I met C and LW; coincidentally we met 2 days before LW's bdae and so I bought some cakes at Naomi kitchen for LW. I've read about Naomi way back but didn't really have the will power to travel all the way to Lavendar. Thankfully we were dining at 12 Inch Pizza @ V hotel, which is a stone's throw away (will blog on that later).

Naomi Kitchen @ Crawford Lane
Located at 465 Crawford Lane, Naomi Kitchen resembles your typical HDB bakery selling not so typical confectionary. For one, they sell a variety of interestingly flavoured Swiss Rolls. I bought the Peach and Mango, Yam and Chocolate Banana Pudding Swiss Rolls for Lil Wan's mini celebration. My colleague D had the Strawberry Mango Pudding on the spot and shared a bite or two with me. I love the soft sponge like texture of the Swiss Rolls; it's fluffy and not as kueh-ish as Rich and Good Cake Shop. I also liked how the flavours were more real than R&G.

Out of all the flavours, I liked the Yam one best! I love how the Yam Swiss Roll was filled with a mixture of Yam Puree and cream instead of just cream alone.

The Chocolate Banana Pudding was special but I thought the banana could have been more ripe, while the chocolate pudding could have been more chocolatey.

D and myself also shared some tarts as they looked too damn cute. We tried the Strawberry Peach Cheese Tart which, in my opinion, looked better than it tasted. I prefer my tarts to have a more firm and crunchier texture, however Naomi's tarts were more short than firm and are those crumbly, melt-in-your mouth kinda tarts. I also thought the cheese filling lacked the cheesy aspect and didn't quite make the cut as a cheese tart.

I was being all kia-su and decided to have the chocolate tart since it was the last chocolate tart left. The chocolate tart tasted better than its cheesy counterpart, however the crust was equally crumbly and the chocolate ganache was pretty passable.

The lady was really nice and gave me a discount of $0.20 since I bought 2 tarts (I only decided to purchase the 2nd tart after gobbling down the first and had already made the payment). I really appreciated her warm service and would definitely come back for more Swiss Rolls. Naomi Kitchen beats Rich & Good hands down and I challenge all R&G fans to try Naomi's; warm service and fantastic swiss rolls, what's there not to like?

Happy Birthday Lil Wan, you're always little in my heart :)
