MU Parlor @ Holland Village

I was suppose to be on a diet but I ended up jio-ing Hans for lunch anyways. Damn, I used to be really discipline and I blame those food blogs for the constant uploading of tempting pictures. I happened to cross paths with MU Parlor while browsing one of those food blogs; I recommended it to Jie and her feedback was pretty positive. I knew it was time to head down and nobody fits the bill other than Hans- my cafe/ dessert khaki. According to Hans, he was the one who recommended MU to me a month or two ago. Thankfully I did not heed his advice as he said MU has changed for the better: prettier ambience and cheaper cakes.

MU Parlor @ 16A Jalan Mambong
Located on the 2nd floor, next to Thai Express, MU is indeed pretty alright. I liked how they combine different kinds of furnitures, creating a airy fairy ambience. However, out of all the seats available, we chose one hell of a rocky table. The table was so shaky, I was afraid my heavy elbows would break it.

MU parlor serves up a good variety of gourmet burgers as well as desserts. I felt that MU is pretty wise, not only do they specialize in burgers only, they do dish out some pretty unique burgers. We ordered the Portobello, Celery, Fuji Apple Slaw Burger to share; topped up $8 and we got ourselves a lunch set (burger, dessert and coffee). We had the ice flat white and Hazelnut Praline cake for the add ons.

Honestly, I have no idea what Flat White is but I guess it's the half brother of Cafe Latte? From my understanding, Flat White had an Australian dad and Cafe Latte had an Italian dad. Other than that, they are both essentially steamed milk with coffee. In any case, the flat white was pretty good. Rich and milky, with a touch of coffee; a brilliant thirst quencher for a hot hot day. I liked how it is served it a cute little pitcher.

Ice Flat White
We settled for the Hazelnut Praline Cake as it looked promising. The cake was essentially made of Hazelnut mousse with a Passionfruit core (if not passionfruit, some citrus fruit). It was a nice blend of both sweet and sour albeit I'm not a great fan of mousse cakes. I also didn't quite care for the meringue shells on top; kinda soggy and bland.
Hazelnut Praline Cake @ $7- $8

The burger arrived shortly after we devoured the Hazelnut Praline Cake, it came with a garlicky fries on the side. The garlic bits really brought the fries up a notch; crispy fries tossed with bits of onions and garlics, cant get better than this!

Portobello Celery Fuji Apple Slaw Burger @ $17
The burger was indeed really unique. There was a generous amount of juicy Portobello layered with some celery leaves and a tart apple slaw, pretty good combination though I might prefer it a little less sour.

Love dining with Hans as his agreeable to anything and everything; I think we have something in common and that is GREED. We ended the meal with another dessert, their Double Chocolate Mousse Brownie which was delectable! In case you're wondering, no I'm not double standard, I don't like fluffy mousse but heavy mousse is da bomb! This brownie happen to be topped with dense, creamy, ganache like mousse which is tasted so very good with the brownie base- definitely a must try for chocolate lovers!!

Double Chocolate Mousse Brownie @ $7-8
If you ask me, the burgers ain't really worth $17 but I reckon $25 for the set (coffee, burger and dessert) is pretty worth it. I would return to MU for its ambience and to try their other burger creations, don't see myself ordering the same things other than their brownie.
