Robert Timms @ Wheelock

Headed to Town last Friday with Jie as we both needed some retail therapy. We drove as parking was per entry and Jie's toe was hurting. Let me just say, it was the worse decision ever! There was a massive jam from Far East florist all the way to Novena Square. =S

We took twice as long to reach Orchard and decided on Robert Timms for dinner as there was a GSS 1-for-1 promotion going on and what better time to try their mains than now! As we were famished, I headed to Robert Timms first while Jie parked the car. I arrived and the place was packed and so I waited for someone to attend to me while browsing the menu. Looking up, I was glad to see a waiter walking towards me however he totally ignored me and served the group at the back. To make matters worse, he continued to ignore me despite me waving for his attention. So when I finally got his attention, he said "Yes Mdm, we are still full house, can you wait." I immediately knew he misunderstood and thought I was with the group at the back so when I finally cleared the air and told him I'm not with them and I came earlier he gave some stupid bullshit and said he didn't see and yadah yadah... I was f-ing pissed and wanted to go somewhere else for dinner but Jie arrived and she wanted to try Robert Timms so I just sucked it up and endure.

We finally got a seat and were ready to order. Once again that bloody waiter ignored us and when we caught his attention he asked us to wait. I pretty sure I didn't offend him, why the hell is he so mean to me?! Anyway both of us agreed the service sucked and we decided to order something really cool as we are sooo not going back to Robert Timms. I ordered the Crocodile Stew while Jie had the Stout Braised Kangaroo Loin. Jie's Kangaroo arrived first and it wasn't too bad, the puff pastry was crispy and the Kangaroo meat was juicy albeit alittle tough. I thought the sauce tasted pretty good at first bite but subsequently it became a little too gamey for my liking. The mash was average and the carrots were tooth-breakingly hard.

My crocodile arrived soon after and honestly it looks putrid but looks can be deceiving and I was crossing my fingers, hoping that this crocodile would taste good.

The crocodile meat was surprisingly tender and tasted like pork. However, everything else was bad; the carrots were once again uncooked and the mash was terrible.

Crocodile up close. Doesn't it look like a pork chop?
Cake Menu

Disappointed with my main, I decided to console myself with some desserts. Robert Timms has quite a variety of desserts and cakes and I had a tough time picking one. After much deliberation, I settled for the Chocolate Lovin cake and boy it was good! It was uber fudgy (as you can see from the picture) and uber dense, just what I need after a some lousy mains. I would say this cake tasted more like a brownie than a cake itself; I loved loved the texture of the cake but would have liked it a little less sweet.

Will I return? Maybe not for the mains or their sucky service but I might give them another chance and head down to the other outlet at Somerset for their coffee and their desserts though.
