Cakes for Kicks :)

Mum and Dad went to Msia and it means dessert for dinner :) First up, cakes from Marmalade Toast. Jie and I went to check this place out a couple of months back and found out it closes at 7pm. WHAT??! who in the right mind in town closes at 7 pm?! After that disappointing trip, I made sure I went to Marmalade early in the afternoon. I heeded the advice of the staff and got the Chocolate brownie cheesecake and chocolate truffle cake, the latter, according to her, is the best seller. I would get the carrot cake if I hadn't already try them at Marmalade Pantry

I had high hopes for this. Being the best seller, this should be a class above the carrot cake I tried previously. However, this cake did not live up to my expectation, albeit a little high. This truffle cake definitely beats the one we baked at BITC as it is denser and was more of chocolate ganache than chocolate cream but I still found it too gelatine-y. I guess I just wished this chocolate truffle cake could be denser and richer. It's not nasty but just curious how this can be the best seller since the carrot cake rocked.

Chocolate Truffle Cake @ $5.50
Next up, brownie cheesecake. Frankly, I was kinda puzzled why they called this brownie cheesecake. This is more like chocolate topped cheesecake or chocolate ganache cheesecake; there was a cube of brownie to say the least. Other than the misrepresentation, this cake tasted pretty good. It had the right amount of cheesiness and creaminess to it- delicious.

I will definitely return to Marmalade Toast for their other cakes, probably the chocolate fudge cake or chocolate tart? Anybody tried them?

Cakes for dinner is FTW
As if one night of sin isn't enough, I bought more cakes for myself the following day. However, I must say, this wasn't planned for. I was suppose to dine at Covelli with Jie but she had to OT and pangseh-ed me. Emo me was roaming around aimlessly in Taka for an hour and decided to cheer myself up with some cakes. I'm telling you cakes beat diamond ring hands down (disclaimer: ask me 5 years down the road and I might sing a different tune). I thought having Cedele cakes would make me feel less guilty as they use organic unrefined sugar and grape seed oil. To me sugar is sugar period. Raw sugar has all the minerals in them but they still contain the same amount of calories as normal sugar does, but i guess anything unrefined sounds good (but why doesn't that apply to human beings?)

I got myself their best seller: the carrot walnut cake, and the real dark chocolate cake, just cos I'm a die hard fan of chocolates.
Left: Real Dark Chocolate Cake @ $5 + and Carrot Walnut Cake
I must say the carrot cake in Novena Square tasted much better than the ones served in Taka. It might be my mood that's affecting it but I'm pretty sure I remained as unjust as possible when I was savoring every bit of it. It was still satisfying but I just thought it tasted inferior to the one I had earlier on.
Moist Carrot Walnut Cake @ $6
The real dark chocolate cake tasted alot like Wimbly Lu's but better. Other than the size of the cake, this cake (relative to the Carrot Walnut Cake and Wimbly's), this cake tasted really moist and chocolatey. I liked how it wasn't too sweet and was moist yet dense :)

Pardon the tiny blob of cream cheese

The cakes were gone in just 10 minutes. Hungry me was stuffing pieces of cakes after cakes into my mouth, I guess cakes are really comfort food. I felt super stuffed after that, now who says you can't have cakes for dinner?

Yar ok, shut up about my waist line.
