Thomson Road is fast becoming a foodie's heaven! With more than 10 new eateries mushroom-ing within these 2 years, no wonder some say it's the next Serangoon Gardens. Dad and I got sick of the longhouse lunch crowd and decided to try out the new Ice Edge II. They were having 1 for 1 promotion from 12pm-3pm on weekdays..*winks* now you know the real reason why we went there eh?
Left Clockwise: Brownice Ice cream, Pork chop, Prawn Linguine & Brownice |
We were there around 1 pm and there weren't many diners; that can mean 2 things... Either they suck or they have not alerted the Kia-su Singaporeans' radar. In any case, we were bent on eating there as it had awesome air conditioning- just what i needed!! I swear we will melt to death one of these days...
I got myself a Pesto Prawn Linguine and Daddy ordered a pork chop for himself. Now comes the verdict: My prawn linguine was simple, it wasn't bad but it lacked the pesto taste. However, with the 1 for 1 promotion, I must say this dish is pretty worth it! My prawn linguine came with 4 fresh & succulent prawns and it only cost us $8++ (after discount). Daddy's pork chop was kinda disappointing, it was really small and tasted like something my mum can whip up in 10 minutes. The mash potato tasted good but pathetic, portion wise. I guess all good things come in small sizes. Our total bill came up to $16.38 which wasn't too bad. I would definitely go back if and only if there's a promo, now now don't get all judgmental.
After lunch, we headed over to Brownice which is 1 of the 5 Ice cream shops along Thomson Road. Unlike the 4 other ice cream shops, Brownice is located further in at Sin Ming Center and might not be that visible. In fact, if there wasn't a mini jam at the junction, I would have missed it too.
In case you don't know, Brownice serves only vegan stuff and that includes their brownies, waffles and cakes. Their ice cream is made of brown rice (which puzzles me) and thus is suitable for lactose intolerant people. After sampling a couple of flavours, we settled for the dark chocolate and peanut butter caramel. The dark chocolate ice cream tasted just like their calorie loaded counterparts, amazing! Both Dad and myself were amazed at how good it tasted! Unfortunately, the Peanut Butter Caramel did not make the cut. It was really grainy and had a very confusing taste. Nonetheless, with a beautiful shop layout and a wonderful service, I would definitely return to Brownice again. Besides, the no guilt factor is too hard to resist :)
