Gobbling my Gobi Dessert

Gobi dessert, a play on Gobi Desert, is a cosy little dessert shop located along the streets of Joo Chiat. I've read about their cakes and I was glad we had the opportunity to pop by before our department dinner.

I thought it was kinda queer for them to have a tea time promo (a slice of cake & tea/coffee for $7.90) from 3pm-7pm, nonetheless it was a another incentive for us to dine in.

I had their chocolate therapy cake which tasted almost like Canele's Chocolat Royale: a crunchy praline base topped with layers of chocolate sponge and chocolate ganache.

E had a Yolkless cheesecake which was neither here nor there; it was neither creamy nor light, neither dense nor fluffy. Honestly, the cheesecake was kinda bland and had a gelatiney feel.

D had the Oreo Cheesecake which is almost really soft. I thought the cake tasted more creamy than cheesy and wasn't as appetizing as my chocolate therapy.

A had the Molten Chocolate Lava Cake which I heard is pretty good and indeed it was!! Their Molten Lava Chocolate Cake had a nice ratio of cake: lava and their cake is uniquely soft and moist. Most Lava Cakes generally have a crispy and hard exterior but theirs is really tender and had the melt in your  mouth texture. The lava was also wonderfully viscous and rich without making one feel like they're eating tons of oil. Remember Chocolate Origins? nothing is worse than a pile oil floating on chocolate.

In short, I thought Gobi's chocolate desserts are good. However, their cheesecake ain't that great. Everyone at the table felt that the cheese was too soft and lack the distinct cheesiness we all yearned for.
