24 Years of Tradition

tra·di·tion

[truh-dish-uhn] noun: the handing down of statements, beliefs, legends, customs, information, etc., from generation to generation, especially by word of mouth or by practice

Tradition, a word so commonly used but difficult to uphold. We've been heading over to Malaysia for CNY since the day I was born and I'm glad it has continued this way. However, times have changed and somehow CNY does not seem so CNY-ish anymore. For one, I failed to wear something new this chinese new year. Nevertheless, the food is awesome, like always!

Kopi C
We arrived early in the morning (there was already a jam @ the causeway at 4am!?!) and had breakfast at Seremban. I had my first bowl of Lou Shi Fun at Pence Hawker Centre; not too bad but kinda salty.

Lou Shi Fun, the love of my life <3
Then it was lunch at KFC cos its convenient, now I know why people actually eat fast food #worse lunch ever. I'm not exactly a fan of fried food and so I ordered some golden wrap chicken thingy which was essentially a grilled chicken in parchment paper. I thought the chicken was kinda dry though.

Not long after, it was reunion dinner! We usually have reunion dinner with my mum's side cos dad's side is kinda....anyways alle iz vell cos my mum replaces my 3rd uncle. Reunion dinner is at my 1st uncle's house as his an awesome awesome cook; I don't think we show much appreciation for his hard though. Embarrassed much, I mean how many people actually make their own Yu Sheng?!? I know my uncle does, and its extremely tasty!!

Besides Yu Sheng, there's soup, chicken, arrowroot, turnip and of course steamboat! OMG I don't think I ever ate that much (besides buffets of course). There were quail eggs, meatballs, fishballs, dumplings, beef, prawns, mushroom, abalone, awesomely stuffed Tau Pok, vegetables etc...

I love steamboat!!!

Tau Pok Stuffed with oyster sial!

We went down to Seremban for vsiting the next morning and there I was munching my way through all those new year cookies. Thankfully Yi Poh was open and we had Lou Shi Fun for brunch. Sadly, I thought the noodles here were kinda bland; the portions were really small as well!

The next day, we went up to KL once again for our 2nd reunion dinner (this time with the aunties as well). Dinner was fantastic, sadly no pictures as we were all famished and I reckon I would get bashed by hungry people if I were to snap shots of the food.

Had a Caramel Machiato from Starbucks the next day :) while walking around Mid Valley Mall. I also bought a box of donuts from Big Apple Donut! which to me, is the best donut shop ever!

There's something about Big Apple's Donuts that make it so irresistible! I'm not sure what it is though but they taste so darn good!

Mostly chocolate flavours cos I picked them =D

Thank God for the donuts as dinner was kinda sad. As most shops are closed, we decided to check out this place called Zhi Zhi Mee. The noodles at Zhi Zhi Mee kinda suck, especially my pathetic looking Ban Mian. My dried Ban Mian tasted like those Korean Instant noodles which can be whipped up easily at home.

Pop's Sarawak Laksa looked pretty good but she said it didn't taste nice.

My cousin's Yee Mee looked pretty promising and I guess this was the best of the lot.

After 4 days 3 nights, it was time to bid farewell. I had my final dose of Lou Shi Fan @ Gao Sook (9th uncle). Gao Sook had expanded, unfortunately the noodles didn't quite make the mark. The noodles were kinda sour-ish and lacked flavour, I think more black sauce would have made this slightly  more appetizing.

It's a tradition to have ice cream on our way back to Singapore, albiet my choice of ice cream has changed. I used to always get a Cornetto but it's Magnum now bitches! :d The store at the petrol kiosk had this new flavour Magnum Chocolate Brownie and I knew I gotta try it!

The Magnum Chocolate Brownie is essentially a Magnum Chocolate Ice cream with additions of cashew nuts on its exterior. Eh... Mr Unilever? how's that a brownie??

In short, my CNY 2013 is same same but different. I hope yours went well! Happy CNY you beautiful people! =D
