"Please step aside, do not block the walkway..." this isn't a typical greeting you would expect from any restaurant I presume. Located at the new extension of Plaza Singapura, Hoshino Coffee kinda stands out due to its open restaurant concept and its strategic location near the escalators. Known for serving cloud like souffle pancakes and hand drip coffee, Hoshino Coffee was definitely in the "to-dine" list.

We arrived at around 7 pm, fortunately the waiting line was reasonably short. With around 2 groups of diners ahead of us, we managed to get our tables within approximately 15 minutes; but that wasn't without the constant reminder of having to "keep out of the walkway" and to "step aside". In case you aren't aware, the walkway is pretty wide and we weren't that fat to block the walkway. Honestly, the waiter was being such a d*ck but I didn't want to give up our positions in the queue, especially since we've been queuing for 10+ minutes.

I guess it was pretty clever of them to create a mock up of the menu; this totally sped up our decision making process. My eyes were fixated on the huge Omu Rice display and hence I ordered the Tomato Cream Omu Rice. E ordered the Carbonara while F had a Lobster Bisque Soup Spaghetti.

Tomato & Cream Omu Rice with Shrimp & Mozarella @ $15 |
Although I was attracted by the delicious looking Omu Rice, I was kinda skeptical as Tomato & Cream sounded a lil dubious. To my surprise, the dish turned out to be really delectable! The tomato cream wasn't puke inducing which I initially thought it would be and was really decadent and yummy! The rice, which was enveloped by the fluffy omelette, had a tinge of tomato flavour which went really well with the creamy sauce and the chunks of mozarella. I really loved my dish and highly highly recommend it!

Souffle Pancakes with Softee Ice cream @ $12

I thought the Souffle Pancakes lived up to the expectation. It was crispy on the outside and soft & fluffy on the inside. The addition of the maple syrup and soft serve ice cream definitely elevated the entire dish. However, when the pancake has cooled, I thought it tasted alil like those chiffon cakes you sold readily at those heartland bakery. I'm not sure whether it was due to the melted ice cream or my stuffed tummy but the pancakes weren't as nice as my first few bites.

The parfaits looked pretty cool and so we ordered one too. We had the Matcha Parfiat which came with green tea soft serve ice cream, Matcha jelly, chestnut, scoops of red bean, cornflakes and a cookie. I thought the Matcha ice cream was pretty good. I especially love the red bean paste as it wasn't too sweet and went really well with the Matcha and cornflakes.

I stole a spoonful of E's Carbonara sauce and it tasted overly cheesy to me. I'm not sure whether it was due to the fact that he added mountains of cheese powder on the top but I thought it sort of had the taste of blue cheese which I extremely detest.
I didn't try F's Lobster Bisque Soup but it looked pretty good and I reckon it would have tasted the same as Yomenya Goemon.
I guess it would have been really stupid of us if we didn't give their aw-so-highly-raved-about Souffle Pancakes a try. I read a couple fo reviews and knew I had to get the pancakes made way ahead as they take about 15-30 minutes to cook.
On the whole, Hoshino Coffee's food was pretty decent albeit a tad pricy. I wouldn't mind returning for their Tomato Cream Omu Rice and Souffle Rice. However, I think their service requires much improvement; sucky & nonchalant attitude coupled with moody expressions does make any good tasting food bad.
