Tampopo

Had dinner with El and Mummy at Tampopo, yup you've got that right. El wanted to treat my Mum and we were suppose to do dinner at Moghul Mahal @ Novotel. However, they were filled (yar filled, I dunno what they mean by that either) so we went to Tampopo at Liang Court instead. I've read about Tampopo but Jie said it wasn't good, hence I didn't really bother to try it.

El said they are known for their black pig and that led to a discussion of how the pig can be black. Apparently the black pig looks like an ordinary pig except for its short black hair, short straight legs and straight underlined belly. The black pig has a higher fat content which enables it to withstand long cooking at high temperatures, resulting in a juicy, flavourful and tender pork dish. I'm not really a pork fan and ordered a beef curry rice instead. Mum and El both ordered the black pig spicy ramen which looks uber yummy. According to Mum the noodles are alittle chewy and tasted like wanton mee. I had the same sentiments too when I ate Ippudo's noodles. Personally I think ramen at Ippudo is overated! I did taste mum's broth though and it was good! It's very flavourful and "sweet".

My beef curry rice alone is ultra rich, let alone adding an egg yolk on top of it. The ratio of cheese is to rice is almost 3 : 1 man. Super sinful but delicious! :) I think Tampopo understood how sinful their rice is, tt's why the rice came with a complimentary salad, to help one feel less guilty.

We ordered a roll of Tuna Maki to share. This tuna roll tasted really weird, I don't really know how to describe its weirdness but I would definitely give this sushi a miss the next time round.

I think Tampopo is better value for money as compared to Ippudo, would definitely pay Tampopo a visit again.
