Green Pumpkin is a Japanese bakery owned by the fellas behind my favourite Japanese Restaurant- Ichiban Boshi! They pride themselves for baking breads which contains zero preservatives or additives. Using quality flour from Japan, they achieve their springy texture through long fermentation periods instead of adding unnecessary chemicals.
Green Pumpkin Bread @ $1.60 |
I was at Jurong Point the other day and decided to give Green Pumpkin's green pumpkin bread a try. The Bread was indeed chewy and had a really subtle sweetness to it. I found the green petal like coating really unique. It sort of resembles those rolled out fondant but yet it wasn't as sweet nor had the clayey texture, instead it was alittle chewy and subtly sweet.
After the first few bites, I was kinda disappointed. "that's it?? How was that Green Pumpkin?" I thought. But it was not until my third bite did I discover the hidden green pumpkin filling. The green pumpkin filling had just the right amount of sweetness and definitely complemented the bread. I liked how the skin was left amid the pumpkin puree, adding some texture to the filling.
Overall, I was pretty impress by this small and hidden bakery. I would definitely head back to try some of their other bread!
