Birthday Treat from PSOE

It's really funny how fate works. When I was with S, I used to hate PSOE, then I broke up with S and made a new friend K. It is not until K told me he knew PSOE did I become closer to PSOE. But the real cause behind the collision of our paths would have to be food. PSOE love food and I love food :)

So PSOE was nice enough to give me a birthday treat, honestly I dunno what I did to deserve this. He brought me to Vineyard for dinner. It's a small but picturesque restaurant located at Hort Park in the midst of all the greenery. We were one of the very few diners at the restaurant, which was puzzling as PSOE said they are good. I ordered a cod for myself and PSOE got himself the duck.

While we were waiting for our food to be served, the waiter brought over some nice warm bread. The bread taste like any ordinary bread. Other than the warmth, there is nothing really much to comment about. Nonetheless, it's a really nice gesture.

Warm bread before our meal

PSOE's duck arrived first. It looked amazing! I love how it's serve on this really rustic looking pizza pan. PSOE gave me alil of his duck, I thought it wasn't too bad but then again I'm no duck expert and I can't really tell a well executed duck confit from a lousy one. All in all, nice duck albeit alil small don't you think?

Crispy Duck Confit @ $32

My cod went really well with the Shellfish Bisque underneath it. The spinach was also nicely done but alittle too oily for my liking. As for the carrot orangy looking gravy, that's just gross. period. Overall, a nice dish but I don't think its worth 34 bucks.

Cod Brandade @ $34

I think PSOE was slightly disappointed as he it Vineyard didn't live up to his expectation. We understood, from the waitress, that there was a change in management; Vineyard is intending to focus on fine french cuisine instead. So there you have it guys! In my humble opinion, Vineyard is a perfect pak tor place, for special occasions only, unless you have a big pocket to burn.

Oh I think I forgot to mention, PSOE had the car hence he drove all the way to Portsdown Laurent Bernard for my bdae present (IKR, as if dinner wasn't enough) Now I'm really really wondering what I did to deserve this...

Laurent Bernard Chocolate Tart

Finally!! Behold the LB chocolate tart.... Doesn't it look pretty?! The tart is amazing: thick chewy chocolate ganache over crunchy biscuity tart..It felt like heaven! At $7 per slice, you better be hearing some angels cry.  The tart is nice but I would definitely reserve this for stormy days. Meanwhile, I find my trusty old Han's chocolate tart ($3.80) satisfying enough for some instant fix every now and then.

Laurent Bernard Waffles with Chocolate Ice cream

Rule of the thumb: You can't leave a highly inaccessible place without at least ordering 2 items. Hence, we got ourselves a LB waffles. No regrets what so ever as the waffles were to die for!! Crispy waffles drizzled with rich decadent chocolate sauce and paired with yummilicious chocolate ice cream... need I say more? These waffles were extremely fluffy and crispy, it can totally fight Comstock's waffles! I also liked how the berries were uber fresh and sweet. In my humble opinion, this waffles is worth every single penny!

Portsdown Laurent Bernard is definitely a place to chill, away from all the city buzz however, do drive as the bus only comes every +/- 45 minutes or so. I would definitely return for somemore orgasmic waffles! In the meantime, THANKS PSOE for that wonderful calorie laden but ultimately satisfying night! :)
